So the other night I was reading this: A German-language first edition from the very early
1980s by BMW Mobile Tradition called Faszination Rennstrecke.
Bear in mind that this is/was a factory/works
made and approved book.
So the lads are heading off
to Sicily for a Formula 2 race at Enna.
Young Walter is stumbling out of bed at
crazy o’clock.
The lads have breakfast and
hop on their frankly AWESOME Spaten/M liveried team bus.
It was scrubbed clean by a mulleted man
in his mega-tight togs.
That team bus photo again –
those are BIG beer glasses.
Briefcase, tight shorts, aviators, cigarettes.
What
an era to be a man.
Time
to prep for the race – working on trumpets in your extremely tight togs or
cut-off jeans.
Note the little plastic clip on pouches they have for their
cigarettes.
A man stares in awe at dual camshafts.
Thirsty work, this
spannering.

Just when you thought there
couldn’t possibly be more drinking depicted in this factory-made book, there
is.
The blurb talks about bonding, and how a team has to stick together and is
not just about the driver.
Eventually, between drinking
sessions there’s a motor race.
Which BMW manage to actually win.
As
a result there’s yet more saucing.
This time they even schnuck a bird (clad in a one-piece purple jumpsuit) on the
bus.
Das ist awesome.
ReplyDeleteI wish I'd tattoo'd mein DingDong mit M-Power colours when I was stupid enough to do so.
